31 years ago, my cute parents got married. I am thankful for this day because of their union, I was born into a loving, caring, and humorous family. They got married at one of the busiest times of the year, right as farming can sometimes be hectic. I'm surprised they got married when they did because it "interrupted" with farming. My dad always told my mom that they had to plan kids around farming, and he's told us that we have to plan our weddings, grand-kids, and anything else important around farming. If you couldn't tell, our life surrounds farming. Nothing too important can happen during the summer months because, yep you guessed it...farming.
Because of this, they haven't really ever had a chance to celebrate their anniversary, or other things came up that prevented them from celebrating. I was one of those other reasons. A few years ago on their anniversary, I had to have an emergency ankle surgery which resulted in me staying the night in the hospital. My parents, being the good parents that they are, stayed with me and had Sonic as their anniversary meal. Since that time, I felt like I owed them a do-over. So this year I decided to give it to them. I went all out. My brother, aunt, and I put together a meal and made sure they had a special day.
Here was the menu for the night:

Part of my degree is event planning, I loved taking those classes. I don't know why I did, but I always looked forward to them and loved doing assignments in those classes. We learned about event food, decorations, place settings, and themes. I set their place settings to be meaningful to them. A few years ago, for 4-H, I made my parents a scrapbook of their wedding. I put that scrapbook in the middle of the table, with a bouquet of flowers, their menu for the night, lemon water, place mats that I made in one of my classes, cloth napkins, and name cards.

It was so fun to be able to take what I learned from my classes and use it in real life. I forget how much I love planning events until I do it. Last year both of my roommates got married and I helped plan their bridal showers, and I. LOVED. IT. So, in other words, if you need some party planned, I've got your back.
Below is the different courses of food that they got to enjoy. I was too involved in garnishing the dessert plates that I forgot to take a picture of them. But it's okay that I forgot because it was my first attempt at lava cakes. Let's just say I need to work on making them.
This was so fun for me to be able to do something I enjoy doing since the COVID has wrecked some of my other planned events. Plus I was able to give them a do-over of that one anniversary I messed. I'm so thankful to have parents that love each other and make a house feel like a home. Their love radiates and I hope to one day have a love as strong as theirs. Happy 31 years of marriage!
